About Dodge viper
Dodge Viper is a super car in the sports car segment of the Dodge
division of Chrysler LLC. The car was a huge success since its production in 1992. It was an answer to America’s demand for a powerful and stylish alternative to the muscular sports car of the yester years. Since then Viper has undergone numerous transformations. Today Dodge Viper
boasts of its third generation – an entirely new coupe.
The first generation of Viper was a very basic version where entire concentration was on performance. Passenger comforts and luxuries were heavily compromised. The engine in the first generation of Viper
was truck-based which was later remodeled to suit a car platform. Even though this remodeling did not give adequate results Chrysler did not increase budget allocation for Viper
up-gradation. Also the luxuries in the vehicle were kept at a minimum. There was no roof or windows and door handles were absent on the exterior. With a 400 Hp V10 engine Viper ensured good performance but the passenger comforts were lacking.
These issues were addressed in the second generation Dodge Viper models
. Performance was improved and luxuries were added. Up gradations on the performance front included augmenting power, perking up suspension, and reduction of distance while braking. Few passenger luxuries were also added. This gave the new model of Viper a renewed life. It was sold in Europe under the brand name of Chrysler.
The third generation Dodge
Viper was a convertible which came into the market in 2003. A major change in design was made. The body was given a sharper and sleeker look and engine was enlarged and other power features were upgraded.
The present Dodge Viper car company
available in the market is the 2006 model – ‘Dodge Viper SRT 10 Coupe’. It is two seated sports car, a far cry from its predecessor convertible. A 500Hp V10 engine with 8.3 liters capacity gives the vehicle massive power. The vehicle is equipped Tremec transmission system and Brembo Brakes. With this engine Dodge Viper
can cover almost 60mph in just 4 sec. The vehicle has an increased down force and is stable at high speeds.
Interiors have been considerably improved interiors and have been made more comfortable. The vehicle has been fitted with carpet, weather strip pieces and slim panels. Boot space has also been increased.
Not much change has been made in the exterior looks. The double-bubble roof structure and rear styling of the previous models continues in the present car model
But safety parameters still remain an issue. Side impact airbags are absent and there is no traction and stability control. Even though not a very comfortable vehicle to drive, the immense power of the engine gives it a race car
has not gone in for a 2007 model because it is planning a major overhaul of the vehicle in2008.
The new Viper
to hit the markets in 2008 will have improved engine features like 600Hp engine with a capacity of 8.4 liters and 560 lb-ft torque. This promises the owner more power coupled with a better performance.
