Information of Ford Mustang

The leading American automobile manufacturer, Ford Motor Company, manufactures the Ford Mustang. The first Ford Mustang was rolled out on 09 March 1964. It was on the 17th of April 1964 that it was put up for public display at the New York World’s Fair. The Ford Mustang became a super success and recorded sales of over 1 million cars in the first 18 months of production and the company manufactured 1.5 million Mustangs in the first two years at its three manufacturing units in Michigan, California and New Jersey.

The Ford Mustang has gone through many makeovers over the years but is still rated as a very popular vehicle. The first Ford Mustang that was introduced was a two-seated vehicle and then this was later remodeled and made into a four-seater car. To cut down cost the Ford Mustang company used many parts, which were used in its other models such as the Ford Fairyland and the Ford Falcon but the body of this beautiful vehicle was absolutely different from any of the company’s other models.

The Mustang Company started production in 1964 but the vehicle underwent some changes after a few months and the ones manufactured in 1965 were different from the earlier Mustang models as few changes were made to its engine. The interiors also went through changes with the driver’s seat being made adjustable, introduction of AM radio, the AC unit under the dash to name a few. In 1966-67 and 1968 the Car Model went through minor changes in its appearance too.

The Ford Mustang only gained in popularity with its appearance in films such as the 1964 James Bond film, “Gold finger” and then in 1968 in “Bullitt”. The Mustang Mach 1 made we an appearance in the James Bond film “Diamonds are For ever” in 1971 and in the 1974 film “Gone in 60 Seconds”. The popularity of the Ford Mustang was such that it took other leading car manufacturers like General Motors and Chrysler Corporation by utter surprise.

The Mustang became bigger and heavier what with the company making changes to its model with each passing year. The Car Model was said to be at it biggest in 1973. There were demands for the smaller version of the car from the Mustang lovers and when Lee lacocca became President of the company he made changes to the current model to make a smaller version of the same. The new smaller version was introduced in 1974 and was a success as well. The first year showed sales of about 4 lac cars. But with the strict emission norms in the USA most car manufacturers suffered and the Ford Mustang too faced a lot of criticism.

The company introduced the newer version of the Mustang, Cobra II and King Cobra in 1976 and 1978 respectively. The Cobra II underwent a lot of changes and a new improved version of the new Mustang Model hit the streets in 1979. The first big redesigning in 15 years of the Mustang happened in 1994 and in 2004 Ford introduced a new version of the car in the North American International Auto Show.

The Ford Mustang has won many awards over the years. In 1974 and 94 it won the Motor Trend Car of the Year and has been on the Car and Driver Ten Best list 5 times. The Mustang has been a successful vehicle from the time of its launch. It has seen its share till date.
