United States homes the largest market of passenger vehicles in the world, which eventually results on making the country having the largest G.D.P. (Gross Domestic Product) across the globe. According to a DOT study in 2004, there were almost 250,000,000 passenger vehicles registered across the country. The figure, along with standard life of these vehicles, has steadily increased for almost 50 years. In this lucrative market of US, Hyundai
(division of Hyundai KIA Automotive Group) has also benefited. Hyundai
is recognized as the 6th largest automaker in the globe and the largest in South Korea.
Hyundai in South Korea has the largest integrated manufacturing unit of an Hyundai Automobile
in the world having a capability of manufacturing more than 1.5 million units in a year. The logo of Hyundai
is slanted and stylized 'H' that symbolizes two parties (the customer and company) shaking each other hands. The word Hyundai in Korean means "modernity".
Hyundai Excel in various body-styles and trims became the first Hyundai version to hit U.S. markets in 1986. Hyundai had record sales in its first year in U.S. (almost 125,000 vehicles). However, Hyundai Excel
lost its command sooner than expected. Again, the efforts for bringing down the costs made the reliability suffer.
To overcome the disastrous scenario with Hyundai Excel, Hyundai Family
started investing heavily for improving the design, quality, durability and manufacturing their vehicles. Within 2 decades, both sales and quality increased dramatically and eventually their reputation also improved. Hyundai for its initial quality became the second company in the States.
With the continuous growth of G.D.P. across America, Hyundai has continued investing heavily in their operations in the country for improving its popularity. The Californian Hyundai Design Centre
was established in 1990 which was then shifted to the Irvine County in 2003.There it was known as ‘Hyundai KIA Design and Technical Centre.
Apart from the designing studios, the facilities also were home to HATCI (Hyundai America Technical Centre, Inc.). It is responsible for the engineering activity related to Hyundai
in U.S. During 2004, the Californian construction of HATCI was completed over a 4,300 acres facility. The Alabama assembly plant that employs almost 2,000 workers assembles Hyundai Santa Fe
