Pontiac cars are a product of Pontiac (General Motors) and have been a beauty on road since the year 1926 and continue to be. The Pontiac
aims at providing an experience that’s truly out of this world .The name Pontiac was first adopted by the Pontiac Spring and Wagon works in the year 1906 after the name of Chief Pontiac. Pontiac was soon taken over by General Motors. The first of the Pontiacs designed and launched by General Motors was one with a 6 cylinder engine that proved to be an instant hit. The Pontiac Car
soon became a hot favorite leaving its immediate competitors far behind in the race to being the number one.
Understanding the demand of the customers the Pontiac in the year 1933 came out with an eight cylinder engine which was superior to the cars of its competitors in terms of price and performance. The Pontiac was known to be a car that is absolutely quiet and delivered superior performance. With soft suspensions the driving comfort in this wonderful vehicle was truly heavenly.
With an attractive pricing strategy, great looks and driving comfort the Pontiac
was a hit in no time at all. The Pontiac was aimed at the middle class segment which gave a lot of importance to price, comfort, reliability and style. The Pontiac Models
in keeping with the changing times came in several different new models to suit the tastes of its target audience. The styling of the car underwent a big change over the years. The new models of Pontiac were manufactured at the General Motors A-body platform.
The single piece windshield was added in the year 1953. The year 1954 saw the addition of the Star Chief which had a wheelbase of 124 inches. The 1955 Pontiac Model
saw the addition of the 173 hp V8 engine. This had a tremendous impact and the sales of the Pontiac increased manifold.
The year 1958 saw an all new Car Model
of the Pontiac hit the roads that had a new chassis, interiors and body, making it a car of the times. Honeycombed grilles, a lower body and changes in the rear fenders added to its already beautiful looks.
The Pontiac Boneville
was soon introduced. The year 1961 was again a year of significant changes. A new chassis helped to bring down the overall weight of the car. The Pontiac Tempest made a grand entry at this time. This was a strategic move that pushed Pontiac to the third position as compared to other American cars on road. The Pontiac GTO was introduced. Pontiac Cars
were also available in racing car models which had a more powerful engine to cater to the needs of the racing car fans.
The year 1967 was the year of the launch of the Pontiac Firebird
which was an entry into the pony car segment. The car turned out to be a major hit. The Pontiac Ventura II was another addition made to cater to the needs of the different target groups thus, providing an economical, compact model. The Tempest was however, discontinued due to several reasons.
